In this situation, an attempt at a tube seal was made to seal the opening, but it failed. There are many reasons a seal can fail, and we take all those factors into account before we design our seals.
This is the same area as the previous picture, but with our seals on. Our tube seals are engineered to last.

This tube seal failed due to a variety of factors. The material was not weatherproof, the seal was not designed to flex for full thermal growth, and the seal rubbed on the stop lug.
