In expansion joint applications over 750 degrees F., and in applications where there is considerable abrasion, the use of a liner and insulation pillow is recommended. There are several liner styles, and there are many choices for insulation pillow construction. A properly designed baffle and insulation pillow can allow an expansion joint to function in temperatures as high as 1800 degrees F.
The "Z" frame design allows the insulation pillow to remain snug against the frame during thermal movement of the duct. It also directs the gas stream particulate away from the expansion joint. The SS mesh cover (INCONEL is optional) ensures that the ceramic fiber remains in place. SS close knit wire screen covers are available for severe abrasive applications.
